Picture this: Carrie sits in her room, her old room, not her new room and ponders. She has Wicked and Avenue Q intermittently playing in her head, perhaps a dash of Janet Jackson and Katy Perry. She looks at the spots on the walls where the wall has darkened around the pictures. This has been her home since April of 2002. What's happened since, what will happened, who she's met, who she's remembered, who she's forgotten.
Carrie is Happy. Pepe Le Pew stares at her next to the 3-D cardboard glasses and she smiles. She found an old journal today and can barely remember the girl who wrote those things. She's changed for the better.
Carrie has learned many things over the years: her gut is usually right when it comes to people (except in certain cases). Without everything that happened, she wouldn't be the fabulous person she is today.
Carrie wants to thank everyone, including the assholes and the bitches ( not the good kind of bitches) without you, she wouldn't be who she is.
We are molded by our surroundings, and partly genetics. We don't know exactly what makes us who we are but we know environment plays a significant role. We react to what we see, we imitate, we ignore, we swear to ourselves we won't "do this or that." We love, we loathe, we hurt, we laugh. Without one, we can't know the other. Happiness is made happier when you have depression to compare it to.
Carrie found other old things in her room. She can't believe they've lasted this long. Even more, she can't believe she remembers who and what they were about. She doesn't miss the past but she recognizes its significance. She tries to experience the present and think about the future.
The past is for drunk nights when there are no hot single straight men around. The past is the past for a reason. As corny as it sounds, there's a reason the people from your past that aren't around anymore didn't make it to your future.
Carrie loves and loathes, is loved and loathed, and most importantly she recognizes the importance of both.
Love,
Carrie
